About her / Sobre ella

Her name is Lorena, though you shall call her Lore. As you may have noticed (if you are acute enough) she likes to refer to herself in the third person. Because it's a lot of fun. She loves cold weather, rainy days, and silent nights. She was born in Mexico last century and there she continues living (sigh). Right now she studies English Literature (because she loves English as much as Spanish) and works part time for a maritime communication center (as a translator and teacher, not to be afraid!). She is going to be a professional translator (one day, in the future). She speaks Spanish, English and French. She would love to learn other languages but she goes little by little because she has got a troubled mind and no time at all whatsoever never ever.

Se llama Lorena, pero la llamarás Lore. Como habrás notado (si eres muy listillo) le gusta referirse a ella en tercera persona. Porque es diver. Le gusta el frío, los días lluviosos y las noches calladas. Está estudiando Literatura Inglesa (porque le gusta el inglés tanto como el español) y hace su servicio social para una agencia de comunicaciones marítimas (como traductora y maestra, no teman por su salud mental). Va a ser una traductora profesional (un día, en el futuro...). Habla español, inglés y francés. Le encantaría aprender otros idiomas pero va dea poco porque tiene una mente turbia y nada nadita naditititita de tiempo.

Lore is very, very special. For example, she can suffer strange accidents in an empty room, sleep 24 hours in a row, avoid sleeping, misspell the easiest words, accidentally almost kill people in the subway, and on top of everything she does not have memory of colours. Please notice that you better not ask her what colour the sky is. She prefers to think the sky is green. By the way, her favourite colour is green, and that is probably the only colour she will remember having seen (even if she has not).

Lore es muy, muy especial. Por ejemplo, puede sufrir accidentes extraños en habitaciones vacías, dormir 24 horas seguidas, no dormir nada, escribir mal las palabras más simples, casi matar accidentalmente a la gente del metro y, para rematar, no tiene memoria del color. Por favor tomen nota de no preguntarle de qué color es el cielo. Prefiere pensar que el cielo es verde. Por cierto, su color favorito es el verde y probablemente ese es el único color que recordará haber visto (incluso si no lo vió).

Lore reads a lot, but not quite enough. Her favourite authors are Charles Dickens and Kazuo Ishiguro. Those two fellows have made her cry, but do not tell them, please. Oscar Wilde, Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear, and other Victorians make her giggle. Contemporary poetry makes her raise her eyebrows in awe. She prefers to read a good novel than to watch a bad film (...). She prefers to avoid contemporary best sellers, because she becomes easily angry at cheapness, the last one she read was Harry Potter.

Lore lee mucho, pero no lo suficiente. Sus autores favoritos son Charles Dickens y Kazuo Ishiguro. Esos dos la han hecho llorar, pero no les digan por favor. Oscar Wilde, Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear y otros victorianos la hacen soltar risitas. La poesía contemporánea la hace alzar las cejas algo intimidada. Prefiere leer una buena novela que ver una mala película (...). Prefiere evitar los best-sellers contemporáneos porque se enoja muy fácilmente con las estrategias baratas. She has some (see: lots of) guilty pleasures, and this is one of them --the Internet. She has been online an excessive amount of time. She has visited too many sites to remember. Her favourite part of this WWW world is reading and writing fanfictions and original stories, watching some series, and watching videos on youtube. Ah, by the way, she loves fadoms. They are love. She considers herself part of the Harry Potter fandom, though she is not particularly active.

Tiene algunos (véase: muchos) placeres culpables, y este es uno de ellos: el internet. Ha estado conectada por un tiempo excesivo. Ha visitado demasiados sitios para recordarlos todos. Su parte favorita del ciber mundillo es leer y escribir fanfictions e historias originales, ver algunas series y ver videos en youtube. Ah, por cierto, adora los fandoms. Los fandoms son tan monos. Se considera parte del de Harry Potter, pero no es particularmente activa en él.

Other fandoms that she finds interesting are Death Note, Artemis Fowl, Junjou Romantica, and Hetalia. She might be seen sometimes at the doors of Ouran Host Club, House, Gray's Anatomy, SVU, CSI, Heroes, RPS, The Big Bang Theory, Star Wars and others. When she has time. When she is not scheming how to take over the world. (Blame Pinky and the Brain.)

Otros fandoms que encuentra interesantes son Death Note, Artemis Fowl, Junjou Romantica y Hetalia. Tal vez se le verá husmeando por Ouran Host Club, House, Gray's Anatomy, UVS, CSI, Héroes, RPS, The Big Bang Theory, Star Wars y otros. Cuando tiene tiempo. She writes. She is not that bad, but she is not the best either. Ocasionally, she will post her fanfics, especially when she is on holidays. She likes slash and yaoi, and thinks that being homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual, pansexual or furnituresexual is perfectly respectable.

Escribe. No es tan, tan mala, pero tapoco es la mejor. Ocasionalmente publicará sus fics, especialmente cuando está de vacaciones. Le gusta el slah y el yaoi y piensa que ser homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual, pansexual o mueblefílico es perfectamente respetable

She loves having friends, but she is a little bit "absent" in general. She is in love (with language!)...

The name of this journal, "Mental Notes", comes from a Simpson's chapter in which Bart takes mental notes with a voice recorder. I do that too. Only, without a recorder. The subtitle comes from Shelley's "Ozimandias". The original words are "look on my works, ye mighty, and despair". They're supposed to be Ozymandia's words, telling the powerful people to look at his works, and feel overwhelmed by their perfection. However, in the poem they gain another sense, because Ozimandia's words are craved in a broken statue abandoned in the middle of the desert. Now, the words mean something like: Look on my works, and despair because even the best of its time will perish and be forgotten in the end. Nothing is forever, and much less my words. I am very aware of that.

El nombre de este diario, "Notas mentales" viene de un capítulo de los Simpsons en el que Bart tomma notas mentales en una grabadora. Yo también lo hago. Sólo que sin grabadora. El subtítulo viene del poema "Ozymandias" de un autor inglés apellidado Shelley. Las palabras originales son "look on my works, ye mighty, and despair" (mirad mis palabras, vosotros los poderosos, y desesperaos). Se supone que son las palabras que dice Ozymandias (Ramses II) a los poderosos: vean lo que he hecho y siéntanse intimidados por su perfección. Sin embargo en el poema ganan otro sentido pues son palabras encontradas en una estatua destruida y medio enterrada en la arena del desierto. Ahora significan algo como: Mira lo que he hecho y desespera porque aún lo mejor de su tiempo perecerá y será olvidado al final. Nada es para siempre y mucho menos mis palabras. Estoy muy consciente de ello.
